2017 Canada Games Legacy Trust Fund update

Swim Manitoba

February 14, 2025

The 2017 Canada Games Legacy Fund has distributed $900,000 supporting 225 projects in local sport development over the last seven years. This depletes the 25% capacity building portion of the fund as identified in the trust agreement.

In the final two years before the fund is officially wound up, the remaining dollars will now be allocated to the Community Support and High Performance areas.

We, along with the trustees, want to thank you for your dedicated efforts in the development of amateur sport through the funded projects that ranged from conferences, workshops, training for coaches and officials, strategic planning for sport organizations, technology upgrades, equipment purchases, and much more.

This was all made possible because we hosted the 2017 Canada Summer Games, and the money that was generated has been one of the many legacies that’ve been a catalyst for the growth of sport across the province.

We would also like to thank the board, volunteers, sponsors, and staff of the 2017 Canada Summer Games whose hard work and fantastic results allowed this legacy fund to assist so many worthwhile sport initiatives for Manitobans. It is an example of how hosting events like this ignite our community spirit and transform our city and province for generations to come.
