A Leadership Snapshot

Women are reaching leadership roles in Canadian sport at some of the highest levels on record — but the latest data shows that progress is uneven and fragile

The Leadership Snapshot 2025–2026 reveals that women now hold 45% of board seats and 48% of board chair positions nationally. Yet women account for just 34% of CEO and Executive Director roles, a significant decline from 2022.

The report combines data from a national survey of sport organizations and insights from women leaders across Canada, providing a clearer picture of both representation and lived experience in sport leadership. It also draws on research conducted in partnership with Brock University.
