The Coaching Scholarships Award Program focuses on developing future coaches and helps full-time Manitoba post-secondary students work alongside mentor or master coaches while accessing valuable educational opportunities. Up to four scholarships of $1,500 are available, with each award matched by a Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) contribution of $1,500 or more.
Interested coaches must connect with their University or Provincial Sport Organization for nomination support.
Sport Management Internship Program
- This is for aspiring sport management students enrolled full-time at one of Manitoba’s post-secondary institutions. This grant relies on the PSOs support to provide a hands-on, immersive experience for the student within their organization. Activities must occur between July 1 of the year of application and June 30 of the following year. Areas of internship include:
· Event management (planning, delivery)
· Marketing/sales
· Business development
· Promotions/events
· Budgeting
· Customer service
o Please note that the Sport Management internship grant is $1,500, with the host PSO matching the award for $1,500 (at a minimum ).
Master Coach-In Residence Program
- This grant is to support a master coach program. This is through a PSO/University who wishes to further the practical development of coaches. Student coaches will work with a recognized master coach to help them achieve pre-determined learning objectives. A master coach is defined as one who is able to participate in and coordinate formal evaluations of student coaches. Activities must occur between July 1 of the year of application and June 30 of the following year.
- There are 3 grants available here for up to $3000.
Coaching Seminars Awards Program
- This grant is to support PSOs/Universities with hosting/delivery of coaching seminars between July 1 of the year of application and June 30 of the following year. The Coaching Seminars Program is targeted at the development of coaches within a sport, or a number of sports, at the grassroots, developmental, or high-performance levels. Coaches need to be provided the opportunity to share and expand their knowledge, improve their skills, and participate in coaching development seminars to supplement the information and techniques they have developed through the National Coaching Certification Program and their own experiences.
- Preference will be given to those organizations who offer innovative seminars not previously funded by the Fund.
- 2 grants available up to $4000
Coaching Scholarships Awards Program
- This program is the coaching equivalent to an athletic scholarship. The coaching scholarships program is targeted at developing coaches enrolled full-time at one of Manitoba’s post-secondary institutions (undergraduate or post-graduate). The “student coaches” will work with a mentor or master coach, to help them achieve pre-determined learning objectives. The scholarships also allow the “student coach” to take advantage of unique coaching educational opportunities. The program is a flexible approach to educational opportunities for developing coaches.
o Up to four coaching scholarships of $1,500 each – plus a matching PSO award of $1,500 or more.
