Winkler welcomes Manitoba swimmers for Swim Manitoba Summer Swim Championships

Swim Manitoba

More than 120 swimmers from across Manitoba gathered at the RCU Aquatic Centre in Winkler this weekend as the Winkler Barracudas hosted the SNM Summer Swim championship swim meet, bringing together athletes, families, coaches, and volunteers to celebrate a summer of hard work in the pool.

The meet marked the conclusion of the SNM summer swim season for the Barracudas and welcomed teams from Beausejour, Treherne, Neepawa, Manitou, and Swan Valley.

Winkler Barracudas executive member Nicole Levesque said the championship meet serves as both a competition and a celebration of everything swimmers have accomplished throughout the season.

“We’ve had about five swim meets and this wraps up the whole season,” said Levesque. “It’s a lot of work and it’s a lot of commitment and at the end it’s just really nice to see the swimmers really enjoying the summer in the pool.”

Levesque said the warm weather was also welcome for the many volunteers, parents, grandparents, and other supporters who helped make the day possible.

Competition and Camaraderie

The meet gave swimmers a chance to compete against athletes from communities across Manitoba, while also creating opportunities to make new friends and encourage competitors from other teams.

Levesque said the Barracudas make a point of cheering for swimmers in every lane, regardless of which team they represent.

“At the swim meet in Winkler, we cheer on whoever’s in whatever lane they’re in, even if they’re not from your team,” said Levesque. “It’s a lot of hard work and it’s really fun to watch these kids do well and enjoy it.”
