2023-24 Age Group Swimmers of the Year

Female Age Group 12 and under Swimmer of the Year

Presented to a swimmer who is 12 years or younger and has the highest World Performance Chart point total based on two long course performances.

May 4, 2024 – 722 FINA points

Swim Manitoba – Swim of the Year 2024-25

This is awarded to the swimmer who has the highest point score for an individuallong course performance based on the World Performance Chart.

Female: Mia West, Manta Swim Club – 100 freestyle, Victoria, June 10, 2025 – 784 FINA points

Male: Addi Bailey-Ross, Manta Swim Club – 50 fly, St. John’s, August 14, 2025 – 706 FINA points

Special Recognition – Officials

Special recognition – Jim Fleury.

Jim began his officiating journey in 1995 when his oldest daughter joined the BBSC.

Over the years, he has served in all officiating roles including the clubs Chair of Officers, Meet

Manager and board member.

International Success:

Jim represented Manitoba and Canada at the following international Meets:

During his long officiating career, Jim had the opportunity to be mentored by amazing officials, and the privilege to pay that forward by mentoring officials along their own journeys as well.

COACHING AWARDS

Eric Suthon Grassroots – Coach of the Year  

2023-24:

Cam Harbeck

Cam Harbeck played a key role in directing various programs for SNM during the 2023-24 season. Cam spearheaded the SNM Summer Swim Program offering clinics to rural clubs and running the summer swim meets. Cam also played a role in the successful swimming competition at the 2024 Manitoba Summer Games in Dauphin. Congratulations Cam and thanks for all you have done!

2024-25:

Bret Luke

Bret has been a driving force in moving the Marlins club forward and helping secure its first Junior Provincials title since 2019. Her humility, kindness, and leadership have inspired both swimmers and fellow coaches, strengthening the culture of teamwork and excellence within the club. She has had a lasting effect not only on her athletes’ achievements but also on the broader swimming community in the province. Congratulations Bret!

Geneson Mendoza

Geneson’s high knowledge and experience has made a significant contribution to Swimming in his club and provincially, especially by building and developing an excellence performance mindset among swimmers under his coaching. Geneson has a strong commitment to develop swimmers technically and as individuals. He motivates swimmers to pursue their goals and achieve higher levels of performance. Congratulations Geneson!

Developmental – Coach of the Year

2023-24: Craig McCormick

Craig is an exceptional leader and motivator who guides Bison’s top swimmers to success on the provincial, national, stage. His passion for the sport of swimming inspires athletes and coaches in the community. Congratulations Craig!

2024-25: Rob Pehura

Rob is the shining example of what we strive to be as coaches in this province. His priorities and ambitions lie with his community and growing the sport of swimming for all that are fortunate to cross his path that are willing to pull up a chair and chat. Rob has contributed to the success of rural swimming in the province in a significant way. His peers have recognized the difference Rob is making! Congratulations Rob!

World Event Achievements

This individual has made a remarkable and lasting impact not only on the sport of swimming in Manitoba but also on the international stage, where her achievements have resonated with fans and athletes alike. Her passion for swimming has propelled her to excel in various meets, showcasing her extraordinary talent and dedication. Throughout her career, she has consistently pushed the boundaries of her abilities, setting new standards in her events and inspiring countless others to pursue their dreams in the pool. Her journey culminated at the Paris Olympics, where she represented her province and country with pride. Her accomplishments serve as a testament to the power of hard work and determination, and her influence extends beyond her personal achievements, as she has become a role model for aspiring swimmers everywhere. Congratulations to Kelsey Wog for her outstanding contributions to swimming and for making Manitoba proud on the world stage!

Swim Manitoba – Sportsperson of the Year

2023-24: Kelsey Wog – University of Manitoba Bisons

During the 2023-2024 swim season, Kelsey earned a silver medal in the 200 m breaststroke at the 2023 Pan American Games. She also broke a 15-year Canadian record in short course, setting a time of 1:04.22 in the 100 m breaststroke. During the 2023 World Aquatics Championships, she advanced to the semifinals in the 200 m breaststroke and finished 13th in the 2024 Olympics. Congratulations Kelsey!

2024-25: Maxine Lavitt – University of Manitoba Bisons

In the 2024-2025 swim season, Maxine set numerous Canadian Para Swimming Records including in the 100 m medley. She had a very strong performance at the Canada Summer Games, earning 2 gold medals and three silver medals. Maxine broke the Canada Games record in the 50 m para-freestyle with a time of 28.28 seconds. Congratulations to Maxine!
